How does painting your own pottery work?

Do I need a reservation?

No, walk-ins are always welcome. It is recommended that

larger groups call ahead for reserved seating. 

Can I purchase a piece that is already pai​nted?

Yes, there are many pieces in the studio that have

been painted and are available for sale.


Can I order a custom piece?

Yes, we are always working on custom orders.

Price varies depending on detail and piece. 

Are kids welcome?

South Shore Pottery Shop is a kid friendly environment. 

Is it safe to eat off my finished piece?

The finished pieces are completely food safe.

Our paints are non-toxic and are totally safe for

young children and for making baby hand and foot prints.

Can items be put in the dishwasher or used in the microwave?

It is recommended that you hand wash your pieces. Over time the glaze will dull and become worn.

Do I have to know how to paint?

Absolutely not. We have stamps, stencils, transfer paper, a large variety of books for ideas, cutouts, and more. All these tools and aids are included in the price of your studio fee. Staff is always available to help.

What if I make a mistake?

Everything is fixable. We will show you how to fix things you would like to change or mistakes you have made.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $8 per painter, plus the cost of piece.

Prices range from $4 to $110. The $8 studio fee is for paint,

glazing and firing plus the use of all tools and aids.


What if I don't finish my piece on my first visit?

If you don't finish during your first visit, you can return within

6 weeks to finish your piece. We always have many ongoing projects being worked on. Each visit is an $8 studio fee.
